AI teachers

Every course has its own AI teacher.

On Geniam we call these teachers Mentaroids. Each one is made for its course, with a personality, a way of speaking and a way of teaching chosen by the creator.

Where the name comes from

A mentor for every learner.

Mentaroid comes from "mentor": someone who guides and advises.

Where you stumble, which words reach you, how fast you want to go: these differ from person to person. That is why every learner needs a mentor who guides them in the way that suits them.

A mentor AI that reads your answer, asks you a question and gives you your next step. That is a Mentaroid.

Mentor/ˈmen.tɔːr/
A guide. An adviser.
(From Mentor, the friend to whom Odysseus entrusted his son in Greek myth.)
Mentaroid/ˈmen.tə.rɔɪd/
A mentor AI that guides each person in the way that suits them. On Geniam, the AI teacher each course has.

What the teacher does

  • Speaks

Reads the episode aloud in the teacher's own voice.

  • Asks

Asks questions that get you thinking.

  • Reads

Reads your answer, and tells you what was good and what to try next.

  • Answers

Even in the middle of an episode, you can simply ask about anything unclear.

Talking shows you what you have not understood.

Try explaining something to someone, and you see what you have not understood yet. Geniam's teachers ask you to explain and to answer, and so turn "I think I get it" into "I get it". Your answer does not have to be right the first time. The more you rephrase it, the more it becomes your own words.

A dialogue demo

How text appears
  1. Mina (Writing teacher): Time to practise. Tell me about something that made you happy lately, in two or three sentences, point first.
  2. Sakura (Voice input): Last week my proposal was approved for the first time. I heard the data I spent three months preparing was what decided it.
  3. Mina: Thank you for sharing such good news. You open with the point, "my proposal was approved", so your joy comes through in the first sentence. To make it even better, add a few words in the second sentence on what the data was.

The demo is a sample conversation.

  • Easy to read

Tips for talking with your teacher

  • If a word is unclear, just ask.

  • Try asking for "one more example" or "another way of looking at it".

  • Rephrase your answer, and it becomes your own words.

  • The better your questions, the more the AI becomes a partner you can rely on.
